Ladies and gentlemen, I present to you... The Mars Volta,

Now, if you have ever met me, you know, I have a little infatuation with this band. Well, infatuation is a little bit of an understatement. Obsession is a more likely word, and even that's cut it a little slim. The fact of the matter is, The Mars Volta is the single greatest band of the 21st century, bar none. You can debate that bold statement but I'll tell you now, now matter what you say, YOU ARE WRONG. Honestly, If you haven't listened to these guys yet, you are musically, a cerebral midget. But lets try to break this midgetry. Let's get to the albums shall we...

Deloused in the Comatorium

Let me start off by saying that this album is my favorite album of all time. This is their first full length album after the breakup of Cedric Bixler-Zavala and Omar Rodriguez-Lopez's previous band At the Drive-In. This concept album celebrates the life and death of Omar and Cedric's childhood friend, Julio Venagas, portrayed in the album as the protagonist Cerpin Taxt, who has suicidely overdosed and slipped into a coma. The story is about his adventures and struggles through the "comatorium". The album ends with Cerpin coming out of the coma and ultimately succeeding in his original plan; he commits suicide by jumping off a building. The album itself is well... incredible. Download this now, or you're an idiot, is basically where I'm getting at.
[Note: I had to seperate the album because the file is quite large]

1. Son et Lumiere
2. Inertiatic ESP
3. Roulette Dares (The Haunt Of)
4. Tira me las Aranas
5. Drunkship of Lanterns
6. Eriatarka

Frances The Mute

This is is very close second favorite album of all time. Frances the Mute, their second studio album experiments with many intense sounds and ideas. The album follows a mysterious story which is told through the ghostly and powerful sounds composed by Rodriguez-Lopez and the haunting and strongly liturgic and poetic lyrics written and sung by Bixler-Zavala. The album displays a deep jazz influence, while at the same time infusing a Latin flavor into many songs, most obviously in "L'Via L'Viaquez." All in all, this album will make you shit bricks and orgasm uncontrollably at the same time. And you will notice that the first track on the album is entitled "Frances the Mute". This song was originally supposed to be the first song on the album but was taken off due to time restraints.

1. Frances The Mute
2. Cygnus... Vismund Cygnus
3. The Widow
4. L'Via L'Viaquez
5. Miranda That Ghost Just Isn't Holy Anymore

8. Cassandra Gemini: III
9. Cassandra Gemini: IV

Facing New York - Facing New York

Facing New York is probably one the the first non-mainstream bands I've ever listened to. I got into them around 6th or 7th grade and have loved them ever since I first listened to them. Their sound is truly unique in every sense of the word. I'd say it's The Doors meets Postal Service. The heavy use of keyboards, soft vocals and interesting guitar and bass progressions will surely not disappoint.

1.) We Are
2.) Javelina
3.) Cutting My Hair
4.) Full Turn
5.) Apple Sugar Cider
6.) Flagstaff
7.) Tip of the Iceberg
8.) Styrofoam Walls
9.) Fly on the Wall

Aesop Rock - Labor Days

Now I'm not one for hip-hop music, but there are a few exceptions. Aesop Rock is one of them. Hailing from Brooklyn, Aesop Rock flows like water on his album Labor Days, which is his best in my opinion. But the best things I love about this album are the beats. They are all original and all very catchy. This album will not disappoint.

1.) Labor
2.) Daylight
3.) Save Yourself
4.) Flashflood
5.) No Regrets
6.) One Brick
7.) Tugboat Complex Pt. 3
8.) Coma

Between the Buried and Me - Colors

I was very judgmental about this band at first. They're on the godawful Victory Records label, Labeled as Death/Metalcore, they've got the corny screamo/Death metal kind of name. I listened to their first album and I couldn't stand it. Than I listned to Alaska and The Silent Circus and I thought they were ok (eventually, these albums grew on me). But when I listned to Colors, that prejudice flew away after one listen. Unlike BTBAM's previous albums, Colors is very progressive. Rapid tempo changes and odd time signatures litter every second of the album. And it's not all just death metal growls, lightning fast sweeps, and odd time signatures either. It's obvious that this album is very jazz influenced among other genres. There's actually a part in the song 'Ants of the Sky' where after a powerful crescendo, they go into a blugrass breakdown. I shit thee not. I've probably listened to this album 20 times since I got it and I'm still not bored of it. It's probably one of my favorite metal albums of all times and I highly reccomend it.

1.) Foam Born: (a) The Backtrack - 2:14

Triclops! - Out of Africa

Well, this is my first "real" blog entry, so I thought I start off with a good one. Triclops! is a post-hardcore, prog-esque band from San Francisco. Think of a median between At the Drive-In and The Mars Volta, throw in some Fugazi and top it off with some Minor Threat and you have the sonic boom that is Triclops!. The First time I listened to 'March of the Half-Babies', the first track off of Out of Africa, I instantly fell in love. The rest of the album delivers a punch so incredible, I cannot even begin to describe it. Oh, and the lead singer uses vocal effects that'll blow your mind into oblivion. The only thing I can say is GET THIS ALBUM. The tracks are as followed:

1.) March of the Half-Babies
2.) Iraqi Curator
3.) Freedom Tickler
4.) Duende War
5.) Cassava
6.) Lovesong for the Botfly
